Toward the end of Term 1, our Outdoor Ed class explored various areas around the outside of Yarra Valley and Murrindindi Shire over two days. This was a massive learning experience for the students; some students were sleeping in tents for the first time and all had to manage their food and cooking on the Trangia camp stoves. Overall, they coped very well! Students cooked a range of meals from pasta and sauce through to hot dogs and special fried rice.
The weather proved to be constantly challenging, the students had to cope with the changing weather conditions; they experienced rain, hail and shine. Through reflections and discussions, it was evident the students developed an appreciation for the differing environment types, visiting rivers, rain forests and dry forests.
Students were extremely respectful and supported each other throughout the experience. I feel their abilities and skills developed as the two days went on. It is always a pleasure to take students out of the classroom, especially when they totally embrace the experience and have fun. Great job Year 10 Outdoor Ed group!
