Peer Support Program
Peer Support is a Year 10 elective subject that runs for the first semester of every year. The class is designed to develop the students’ leadership capabilities whilst forging relationships and nurturing the needs of the incoming Year 7 students.
Each Peer Support leader is assigned a group of Year 7 students to mentor and they are responsible for the planning and execution of a 50 min session with the group every week. Students reflect on their individual strengths and weaknesses and work on building their ability to plan activities, reflect on their success and failures, speak in public, engage others, show empathy and be a good role model to other students in the school community.
Students participate in a range of excursions to the local Primary Schools where they get to further practice these skills. Students also study famous leaders and learn about what makes them so admirable to others.
Students in this class are considered leaders in the school and are encouraged to apply for leadership positions in their future years at the College.
