This month, students have been learning about some cultural events on the Japanese calendar which is always interesting as these are often so different to the types of things we do in Melbourne. One of the main events is the celebration of Kodomo-no-hi (Children’s Day) on 5th May. This day is dedicated to celebrating the happiness and prosperity of children and often during this day, children play traditional Japanese games. Our students got a chance to have a go at some of these games including Kendama, Ohajiki and Daruma Otoshi. Later on this term, students will continue to research more about important events in Japanese culture.
